If your pantry could use a little TLC (and by TLC, I mean a thorough cleaning), this DIY vinegar cleaning spray is your new best friend.
Cheap, natural, and incredibly easy to make, it cuts through grime without harsh chemicals—perfect for a quick kitchen refresh.
I don’t know about you, but there is no way I’m using chemical cleaner in my pantry or anywhere I store or prep food. Soap and water alone won’t remove those sticky oil spots or the patch of sugar that melted in the summer heat. So what’s the alternative? Vinegar!

Ingredients & Supplies for Your DIY Cleaning Spray

This little recipe uses just two basic ingredients:
- ¼ cup vinegar
- ¾ cup distilled water
You’ll also need:
- Measuring cup (affiliate link later)
- Funnel (optional but helpful)
- Spray bottle (glass or plastic)
How to Make Your Vinegar Cleaning Spray (Step-by-Step)
My go-to vinegar spray is a simple 1:3 ratio (1 part vinegar and 3 parts water). It’s the perfect strength for everyday kitchen cleanup.
Step 1
Measure your distilled water and vinegar and pour them into your spray bottle. Use a funnel if it helps.
Step 2
Give it a quick shake — and you’re done!
💡 Tips & Customizing Your Spray
- If your pantry is dirtier, you can make it stronger by adding more vinegar.
- Want it to smell nicer? Add a few drops of essential oil (citrus is great) — just don’t go overboard since it’s still oil.
- You can also boost the strength with citrus peels or a touch of borax (more on that in a future post).
What You Can Clean with Your DIY Vinegar Spray?
This works on most hard, non-porous surfaces around the kitchen:
- Counters and tabletops
- Shelves and pantry surfaces
- Glass and mirrors
- Fridge shelves & drawers
- Cabinet doors and handles
- Microwave interior
- Stovetop and small appliances
- Sink and faucets (great on water spots)
Surfaces to Avoid
- Granite, marble, limestone — the vinegar can leave dull marks
- Waxed or unfinished wood — may strip or stain
- Aluminum pans — vinegar can react and discolor
- Painted surfaces — some paints peel or fade
Storing your Homemade Cleaning Spray
Store your vinegar spray in a clean, labeled bottle—glass is ideal, but plastic is fine. Keep it in a cool, dark cabinet away from sunlight or heat. Shake before each use in case anything settles.
